It should be common practice that if you have a pet that often wanders outside on its own, like an outdoor cat, and you don't want it to end up in someone else's home, you have to make sure the pet has some sort of identification that can lead it back to you.

If your cat isn't microchipped, doesn't have a collar, or any visible items that can attest to the fact that it already belongs to someone, it shouldn't surprise you if someone else tries to help the cat out.

When your outdoor cat ends up in a shelter, and someone else legally adopts it, then it is officially game over for you. If you can't be bothered ensuring your pet stays with you, maybe you don't deserve to own one in the first place.

All of that should be said to the entitled woman in the story below, who demanded to get her kitten back from the owner who legally adopted the kitten from the shelter.
